[quote]
"ten decisions shape your life,
you'll be aware of five about.
you'll be aware of five about.
seven ways to go through school,
either you're noticed or left out.
either you're noticed or left out.
seven ways to get ahead,
seven reasons to drop out.
seven reasons to drop out.
when I said: ' I can see me in your eyes,'
you said: 'I can see you in my bed.'
that's not just friendship that's romance too,
you like music we can dance to."

and the oscar goes to...
In lieu of it being Oscar time (only my favorite night of the YEAR) I just wanted to take a moment and do my own re-cap from last night and also upload five of my favorite Academy Award acceptance speeches of all time.
I thought overall the Oscar's were great and that Billy Crystal was right on point being that it was his 9th time taking the stage Oscar night. I vote best dressed: Rooney Mara + best speeches: Meryl (I mean, come on) and close second Christopher Plummer (at 82 he is now the oldest person to ever win an Oscar!)I was also very happy for Octavia Spencer, as her role in The Help was phenomenal. In other news, basically what I took from the Oscar’s this year is that I am in dire need of seeing The Artist...
Here are 5 Academy Award acceptance speeches that I love:
[Hattie McDaniel, the first African American to win an Academy Award for Gone With The Wind]
[Tom Hanks for Philadelphia]
[Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side]
[Dustin Lance Black for Milk]

[quote]
"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."
"I suppose you are real?" said the Rabbit. And then he wished he had not said it, for he thought the Skin Horse might be sensitive.
But the Skin Horse only smiled.

the disadvantages of an elite education
here is an excerpt from a very interesting and TRUE article written by william deresiewicz on education:
"It’s not surprising that it took me so long to discover the extent of my miseducation, because the last thing an elite education will teach you is its own inadequacy. as two dozen years at Yale and columbia have shown me, elite colleges relentlessly encourage their students to flatter themselves for being there, and for what being there can do for them. the advantages of an elite education are indeed undeniable. you learn to think, at least in certain ways, and you make the contacts needed to launch yourself into a life rich in all of society’s most cherished rewards. to consider that while some opportunities are being created, others are being cancelled and that while some abilities are being developed, others are being crippled is, within this context, not only outrageous, but inconceivable.

artist to notice [yago hortal]
here are 5 works done by 28 year old yago hortal. hortal is from barcelona and currently lives and works in berlin. his abstract art is most noted for his use of explosive and vibrant colors, and in addition for his emphasis on the act of using paint.
here is a quote by hortal:
“a painting that talks about painting, and in consequence, about its own language autonomy, is a whirlpool that extends to infinity, a pictorial-rational loop.”
I really find his art to be uplifting and experimental. It would be beyond cool to own one of his pieces to add some more color to my room.

dance to the music
just stumbled upon these amazing posters done by niege borges alves that he created for a series called 'dancing plaque of 1518.' the one of the dance in napolean dynamite reminds me of a few years ago when I spent hours trying to learn the dance myself... good times.

artist to notice [anthony burrill]
this summer my dad gave me an anthony burrill print [below] that reads 'it is ok for me to have everything i want.' I put it up in my room and I find that with its simplicity it sends a pretty complex message. I've taken a look at burrill's other work, and this seems to be a running theme throughout his art.
found on his blog, here are other pieces of art, some similar to mine with equally positive messages:

5 Of My Favorite Bloggers [Shout Out]
There are a lot of blogs that I look at but if I HAD to choose one, I would have to say that Knighttcat is my numero uno. I really like this blog because [similar to mine] it has a lot going on. It isn’t only fashion, it is also art, editorials, and much more. Unfortunately it seems like Knighttcat is on hiatus and hasn’t been blogging much, but hopefully she will be back in action soon.
Cat Party is also one of my all time favs. This blog is so different from so many of the blogs that are out there. It is tasteful and such an awesome blast from the past. It ranges anywhere from having old issues of Life Magazine, to old movies, to runway fashion shows throughout the decades. It is also at times silly and always fun to look at.
This blog is exactly like what it is called. It is a blog solely filled with awesome people hanging out together, namely various celebrities throughout the decades. It rocks.
I like Bruised Hips because it has a darker vibe. It is filled with some photos of its blogger, as well as photos that she likes. This blog is spunky and different.
I just can’t get enough of Andrew Harlow. His blog is incredibly elegant and inspired. Same as many other blogs that I like, it is very visual, primarily filled with photos, but at times quotes as well as small excerpts. I would say that this blog is more photography based than fashion based.
